Off late, the hottest and happening thing in the Telugu circuit has been the bikini act and what looked like a thing for the B-grade heroines has now been lapped upon by the top league heroines and they have been causing quite a stir.

With Anushka, Nayantara, Priyamani, Namitha getting into it there is news that pressure has been building on the other starlets too and one among that happens to be the bubbly beauty Genelia.

Sharing her thoughts on it, Genelia said that at no given point in her career would she get into a bikini act and added that she would not mind letting go of that offer if that be the case.

This means that Genelia has joined the league of Trisha in this matter.

Relax, Genelia hasn’t given up on acting and taken up a new profession altogether.

It is just that she is playing a tutor in her next film Katha. “I liked the script immensely,” says the actress. The chirpy actress expressed happiness about exploring a different genre in her career. “It will be a novel experience,” she adds. The village girl of Sasirekha Parinayam who made scathing remarks against male chauvinism in the film, has to accomplish a more daunting task in her latest ‘suspense thriller’. Way to go girl!

After producing path breaking films like Aithe, Anukokunda Oka Roju and Amma Cheppindi, Just Yellow Cinema is producing a film titled Katha with Genelia as heroine by introducing Srinivas Raga as director. The shooting of the movie is started today at SOS Children’s Village in Hyderabad. The unit members arranged a press meet –

Producer Gangaraju Gunnam said, “We are taking three years gap because our earlier film Amma Cheppindi didn’t do well at box office. We didn’t get exciting talent approaching us after Aithe and Amma Cheppindi. When Srinivas approached with a new story. we liked it very much. It will be a new genre film for Genelia. Katha basically a thriller with love content in it.”

Genelia said, “The script of the movie is good and it is a new genre for me. I am doing the role of a teacher in this movie.”

Director Srinivas said, “I feel fortunate to work in such a reputed and respected banner like Just Yellow. I am hopeful of living up to the expectations. I assisted Kodi Rama Krishna for films like Navvutoo Bratakalira, Trinetrudu and Jenda in the past. I would like to thank Gangaraju Gunnam for offering me this film without bothering about my background.”

Actor Arun said, “I graduated from Madras Christian College in Journalism. I am presently doing lead in Hindi version of Happy Days. I am doing the role of the writer who pens the story in this movie.”

Music director SK Balachandran said, “I am one of the three music directors worked for Brahmastram film. I worked for 4 TV serials produced by Gangaraju Gunnam. There will be four songs in this movie. There is lot of score for background music in Katha.”

Katha story takes place in a hill station. Most of the film will be shot at Araku. This film is slated for Dasara release. Prakash Raju, Raghubabu and Shafi play other important roles. Andrew handles cinematography. Gangaraju Gunnam also pens dialogues for this movie.

The battle has begun between two former south Indian actresses Asin and Genelia now ruling the roost in Bollywood for India’s biggest orange soft drink market- South India. Asin has been endorsing Mirinda for the last three years, while Genelia has become Fanta brand ambassador from this year. Tamilnadu alone accounts for 25 percent of the total orange soft drink market in the country. The rivalry between PepsiCo and Coca Cola India for the South Orange market has been bitter, and much juice has flowed in the campaign. Last three years the market leader in the orange category was clearly PepsiCo India’s Mirinda, thanks to Asin, while Simran and later Trisha gave stiff competition with Coca Cola India’s Fanta. This summer, Fanta has decided to take Mirinda head on by signing up Genelia, the new youth icon in Bollywood who has a huge fan base in south. Says a leading Chennai based brand consultant: “ Asin and Genelia are big in Bollywood today after Ghajini and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na respectively. They have already become national brand ambassadors for their respective brands. But the winner in the orange war will be decided by who wins in Tamilnadu, the biggest market for orange soft drink in the country.” On Friday (April 17) Genelia, flew to Chennai for a big summer 2009 Fanta launch in Tamilnadu. Genelia was in her elements and said, “It feels great to be associated with Brand Fanta. It has been my favorite sparkling drink for a long time. I am quite thrilled about the launch of Fanta Apple. Asin’s two new television commercials with the theme ‘Mirinda Kannu, Konjam Galatta Pannu’ have become super hits with the audiences. The buzz in the soft drink market in Tamilnadu is that this summer it is going to be a tough battle between the two orange drinks, and larger than life stars play an important role in the sales.
