She’s no Sandra from Bandra!

She’s no Sandra from Bandra, sorry Bollywood, but tinseltown’s new hottie is a Bandra girl all right… and with a posh, new and ultra-modern house at Turner Road that has a great view and chic accoutrements to show that she’s moving up.
In the not-quite-finished marble and wood interiors, her makeup assistants prepare her for the harsh sunlight at Mount Mary Church where Bandra Fair, that great community celebration which attracts the faithful from all corners of Mumbai, gets underway today.
How does Genelia remember her Bandra fests from years gone by? “This festival has always been right up there along with our other major celebrations. It’s a great reason for us, my family and close friends, to get together and spend the day,” she replies. Fame has no doubt diverted her attentions professionally, she now mingles with new and different people. So, is she still in touch with her old Bandra gang? “Of course! We’re in touch and talk regularly and meet up,” she acknowledges. Her mother nods approvingly.
Outside the church, kids break into toothy grins at the sight of her. Two college girls who’ve just stepped out, fish for notepads and pens. A good Catholic, Genelia says, “I keep a Novena every Wednesday at St Michael’s Church in Mahim.” Coming from a non-filmi background, she knows she’s been lucky
right from the time she snagged her first modelling assignment at 15. There’s also talent. But right now, holding a few lit candles, she does remember to offer a silent prayer of thanks to the Almighty.
