Gossip: Ritesh & Genelia’s ‘Date Night’!

Guess who was recently spotted watching the latest romantic action movie “Date Night”? It was none other than Bollywood’s “We-are-just-friends” couple Ritesh Deshmukh & Genelia D’Souza.

The duo was recently spotted at a South Mumbai multiplex catching the latest action comedy starring Tina Fey and Steve Carell.

The cute couple along with three other couple friends were seen having a blast and were even overheard praising the movie. However, when a journalist spotted them together, they tried to make a hurried exit by parting ways. While Riteish tried to maintain his calm, Genelia almost ran towards a nearby film standee; trying to hide herself.

Well, we hope the two eventually had a good ‘Date Night’….. Maybe they will finally accept their relationship in the open and perhaps even share some of their dating tips with us!

Film duds don’t bother Genelia’s ad quotient

She has no hit after Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, her comeback venture in Hindi cinema, and yet Genelia D’Souza continues to be a popular face with advertisers. Consider the odds: Genelia was much less hyped than Asin, another Tamil superstar who made her Bollywood debut around the same time with Ghajini. Asin, after her second film London Dreams failed last year, has no takers in Bollywood and has also not signed any new endorsement deal. On the other hand, Genelia’s brand value continues to rise despite consecutive duds. So much so, Virgin Mobiles recently signed Genelia as their new brand ambassador in India along with Ranbir Kapoor. The perky actress also scooped up a new assignment as the new face of Garnier. Experts feel that Genelia successfully fills the cute and bubbly image that was left vacant after Preity Zinta. “Genelia has an advantage. She is not overly sexy. Rather, she looks cute. That makes her a favourite with families and youngsters because she comes across as a sweet cultured girl,” says ad whiz Prahlad Kakkar. “She is a young girl with a refreshing personality. Although Genelia has given flops after Jaane Tu…, a film comes as a package. And advertisers in India don’t link a film’s failure to a female actor,” says Anita Nayyar, CEO, Havas Media. “Genelia carries a unique personality. She is the only young actress who matches the spunk of Kajol, Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta,” says Anirban Das Blah, managing director of KWAN, which manages Genelia’s account. Probably that’s why Genelia features among the Top 10 celebrity brand endorsers that TAM AdEx released a couple of months ago. Meanwhile, Genelia’s cute grin is only growing broader. Nowadays, she reportedly charges a whopping Rs 1.5 crore per deal. It puts her only after reigning queens Kareena, Katrina and Priyanka in the ad-money game. They charge around Rs 2- 2.5 crore per deal.

Genelia denies marriage

The Boys’ girl Genelia D’Souza is upset with rumours of her wedding with actor Riteish Deshmukh. A Mumbai tabloid had reported the romance between Genelia and Riteish that developed on the sets of “Tujhe Meri Kasam” six years ago is concluding in marriage this year.

But the Santhosh Subramaniam actress says she isn’t getting married to anyone for the time being.

“To set the record straight, I am not getting married to anyone. I have always maintained that my personal life is not something I would like to discuss. But this time since it was something that would affect my family, I decided to take a stand,” said Genelia in a statement released on Tuesday.

My films and my brands are my priority as of now and I’d like to keep it that way. And if I do decide to settle down, you will hear it from me when as and when it happens,” says the actress.

Genelia is right now looking forward to the release of “Chance Pe Dance” in which she is paired with Shahid Kapoor. The film releases on January 15.

The actor, who is riding high on success waves after the stupendous success of ‘Kaminey’ is using every trick in the book to maintain his ‘hit’ status and remain in limelight for his upcoming films’ sake.
Reportedly, the actor is now flirting openly with his ‘CPD’ co-star Genelia D’Souza over social networking sites, and the actress too seems equally interested! Shahid has previously been linked with Amrita Rao, Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan, Anushka Sharma – each time for a film release being around the corner. Ritiesh Deshmukh has no problems answering googlies that are thrown at him. Only questions of a personal nature are a no-no. Especially when they centre around Genelia. The good humour in his tone is replaced with a miffed outburst: “Hey, I want to make it very clear that Genelia and I are NOT in any kind of relationship. I don’t know how many more times I’ll need to say this in print before people actually start believing me. I am not in a relationship with any girl now. Why is it difficult to accept that?” Accept it, by the looks of it, Riteish is still single. “Well, I enjoy being single. I am happy this way. I have all the time and space to to do anything I want to. If I have a romantic relationship with a girl, I’ll certainly admit to the same. What’s the hurry to fall in love? When it has to happen it will,” he says.

Genelia has a clean image in the industry so far. Her roles have been that of a bubbly, energetic and girl-next-door characters. This image might change, if what the sources reveal are true.

According to sources, she was asked recently if she is willing to do a bikini role. She responded saying that she is ready to do such roles if the script really demands it. She has reportedly added that the scene should not be shot in an obscene manner.

However we have to wait for a formal confirmation on this and it also remains to be seen if her new image is well accepted by the audience who have adored her the way she is.

Genelia’s may have acted in just a couple of Tamil films but this lady has carved a niche for herself in the Telugu and Hindi film industry. With the impending release of the Bollywood flick Life Partner where she plays the lead role, there are rumors that with this film’s success Genelia could hike her pay packet to Rs. 2 crore.

On her take on wearing a bikini or doing bold scenes, the actress says that she has no inhibitions about it but wouldn’t do such a thing just to create an impact. The actress adds that if her role demands such a scene she would act it out.

Ritesh Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza can continue shouting from rooftops that they are not seeing each other but fact is that the two have been romantically involved for many years now. This picture of them hanging out together at a Mahim restaurant was taken on Saturday night, where the two were celebrating the success of Ritesh’s father Vilasrao Deshmukh being appointed as the Central Minister of Heavy Industries.

According to an onlooker, initially Ritesh, Genelia and their friends walked into the restaurant Goa Portuguesa but they promptly decided to not dine there as it was brightly lit. After that, they walked into Culture Curry, which was dimly lit.

The onlooker, who was present at the restaurant when the two walked in together, said, “Ritesh and Genelia came in with a couple of friends at 9.30pm to Culture Curry and were in a relaxed mood. Both of them were in the mood to celebrate the fact that Ritesh’s father was respectfully reinstated as one of the ministers. Ritesh and Genelia were wary of being photographed as they do not make public appearances together as they have kept their relationship under wraps.”

“I somehow managed to click their picture when they were seated inside the restaurant. They had ordered for traditional south Indian food. They were together for over two hours and were comfortable with several fans who occasionally approached them for autographs. While they readily gave autographs, they refused to be photographed together,” said the onlooker.

“We wonder why they are hiding their relationship when they look so good together and seem so completely in love?” added the source.

Genelia and her Rs 1 crore denial

Sometimes, the news about an actresses’ refusal carries as much spice as her agreement on any issue does. Genelia is no exception to the rule. Following her smashing success in Bollywood with ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’, buzz has it that the petite actress has demanded a salary of Rs 1 Crore for her films.

To put things in perspective, it must be realized that this is no big money to seek in an industry as big as Bollywood’s, where actresses are paid over even Rs 5 crores. And Genelia, who made a forceful reentry in Bollywood with the Imran starrer, had anyway demanded upto Rs 70 lakhs for her other films, including the remake of ‘Santhosh Subramaniyam’, in Hindi.

But if it is true that producers have agreed to pay Genie, as she is fondly called, the Rs 1 crore remuneration, she would be the next South Indian actress after Nayantara and Anushka to charge the fee.

But any questions about this touchy issue was met with fierce denial by those on Genie’s camp, who said she has not been demanding more than she deserves. One only wonders who said she doesn’t deserve the eight-digit salary.
